Reach for the Stars with Project Tower
Project Tower Activity Set is a high-energy, hands-on engineering game project for 9 to 12 year old students. It is designed to show that with a little bit of planning and a whole lot of resilience, they can reach incredible heights. From the heart of Singapore to educators worldwide, weāre here to help you spark that “can-do” spirit and watch your students’ confidence soar as high as their structures.Ā
The Sky-High Challenge
Turn your students into Master Architects with a game that balances daring risks with smart strategies. Here is the blueprint for the fun:Ā
- Blueprint Budget: Teams of 3 to 4 students start by brainstorming and sketching their vision. With a strictly limited “budget” of just 20 sticky connectors, every single piece of tape must be planned with precision.
- Construction Under Constraint: The building begins! Students must follow their blueprints exactly, learning that a wide, sturdy base is the secret to a skyscraper that survives. Itās a race against the clock where being gentle and precise wins the day.Ā
- Ultimate Summit Test: When the timer buzzes, itās the moment of truth. Students place the Summit Marker (their team flag) at the very peak. To qualify for the winner’s circle, there is something even more.
- The Growth Mindset Huddle: After the testing, the real brain growth happens. Students engage in a “Pre-Mortem” reflection to discuss how they handled frustration and what they learned from the risks they took.
Whatās in Your Digital Growth Mindset Resource
This comprehensive 10-page digital kit is ready to download and print, providing a complete lesson-in-a-box experience:
- Master Educatorās Playbook (4 Pages): Your step-by-step guide to facilitating the project. It includes clear learning objectives, a detailed materials list, phase-by-phase instructions and scoring rules.Ā
- Architectās Activity Sheet: A student-facing guide that walks teams through the three phases of the challenge, keeping them focused and organized.Ā
- Skyscraper Sketchpad: A dedicated space for teams to draw their blueprints and budget their connectors before they touch a single straw.Ā
- Post-Activity Reflection Guide: A set of punchy discussion questions designed to turn the building experience into a lasting lesson on resilience and teamwork.Ā
- Printable Summit Marker Template: A fun, customizable flag template that students assemble to crown their creations.Ā
Why Project Tower is a Total Win
- Builds Bouncing-Back Power: Students practice resilience in growth mindsets by balancing the risk of a tall design against the potential for collapse, learning to stay optimistic even when things get wobbly.Ā
- Sharpens Smart Decision-Making: With limited resources, students must apply responsible decision making. They learn to value every resource and think ahead rather than rushing into a task.Ā
- Nurtures Active Contributors: This activity turns students into active contributors who work effectively in teams, exercise leadership, and take calculated risks to achieve excellence.Ā
- Promotes Engineering Excellence: By exploring structural shapes (like why triangles are stronger than squares), students apply real-world physics and careful planning to reach their goals.Ā
